Structural Calculations

English Consulting Engineers will provide the structural calculations and designs you need to make your project a reality. We carry out concrete, masonry, steel and timber design based on the project brief requirements. Accurate and comprehensive structural calculations are essential for ensuring the safety and stability of any building, and are a critical factor in the approval of any construction project by local building authorities.

We design all elements of the works including beams, columns, walls, floors and foundations. They are an important part of the design process for any construction project, as they ensure that the structure will be able to safely support the loads and forces it will be subjected to, such as the weight of the building, wind and snow.

Calculations are carried our in accordance with the Eurocodes and UK National Annexes and can be submitted to the Building Contol. Calculations can range from the design of one-off structural elements such as a load bearing beam to a complete set of calculations for a building.

Do I need structural calculations?

The requirement for structural calculations depends on the nature of the works being undertaken. If works are being carried out that involve structural alterations or may affect the structural integrity of the building then structural calculations will be required. These are submitted to Building Control who must be informed of any structural alterations and grant approval for such work to be carried out. 

Non structural alterations such as the removal of a non load bearing wall require structural calculations. If you are unsure if the works you are carrying out are structural in nature English Consulting Engineers are at hand to offer free advice. 

Who can provide structural calculations?

Only a qualified structural engineer can carry out structural calculations. At English Consulting Engineers Ltd we have experienced, chartered engineers and carry full professional indemnity insurance. We provide this service and present calculations acceptable for Building Control sign off.
